Buying a Pet

Dogs and cats are the most popular pets, so we have started with an overview of dogs. If you are going to be a first time pet owner, read up and know what you are getting into before you make the big leap. If you don’t want the responsibility of a dog or cat, a goldfish or a turtle is always a nice choice. Check back here soon as we will have more content on buying a pet.

Big Dogs

Dobermans -
Dobermans do not typically behave aggressively toward their owners, but can be aggressive towards strangers. Male Dobermans can also be aggressive towards other dogs. They need vigorous exercise everyday. If you are a dominant person, obedience training won’t be a problem.

Boxers- Boxers got their name because of their habit of moving their front paws while playing. Boxers are very loyal towards their owner and are great around children. They protect their territory and constantly need attention. They don’t consider themselves just a family pet, but rather part of the family.

Pit Bulls- Pit Bulls have the reputation for being aggressive. However, this is not true with the proper training. Pit Bulls are very bright, but are dependent on humans. They can be loyal and bring a lot of enjoyment to their owner. Pit Bulls don’t do well with other dogs, so a home with no pets is his ideal environment. They need a lot of training, exercise, and attention to keep them happy.

Great Danes- Great Danes love human companionship. They love to cuddle and walk around the neighborhood. Great Danes don’t need a lot of exercise; they’re happy as long as they are with you. If trained properly, Great Danes will get along with children. Make sure you have a strong fence because Great Danes love to dig holes!

Siberian Huskies- Huskies are fun, loyal, and loving. They need early obedience training and shouldn’t be off their leash. If you are considering a Husky, you will need to spend a lot of time training them. They are fast and love to run around. Huskies enjoy activity, but also enjoy a lazy day on the couch. Remember to have a high fence for the backyard because they can really jump.

Poodles- The standard poodle is a large, loyal dog. They are highly intelligent and they love to please their owners, so it is easy to train them. Poodles are great housedogs and get along with children well. People who are allergic to dog fur have poodles as pets because they don’t shed.

Chow Chow-The Chow is a very interesting breed. This breed has a blue tongue and straight back legs. They are suitable for single people and can be over protective at times. Chows don’t need a lot of exercise, but they need daily grooming because their fur gets matted quickly and easily.

Dalmatians- Dalmatians are known as the “fire station dog.” This breed is ideal for the active family. They require a lot of exercise and human attention. They are fun-loving and devoted to keeping their humans active and happy.

Golden Retrievers- This breed is one of the most devoted of all breeds. The Golden Retriever would prefer to stay inside with the family, but they need daily exercise to avoid joint damage. They are good with all people, including strangers. Golden Retrievers are the most popular family dogs, but are also ideal for single people.

Black Labs- Similar in demeanor to Golden Retrievers, black labs are very intelligent dogs. They love to play fetch, and often times love the water. Very eager to please their owners, black labs are a personable breed that is just as happy playing in the park as lounging around the house. As long as they are with their favorite companions, they are satisfied.

Medium Size Dogs

Beagles - The Beagle is very affectionate and a lot of fun. They are friendly and will do anything for food. They are prone to ear infections, but are generally a healthy breed. This dog is perfect for families with kids or single people.

Cocker Spaniels - This breed is loyal, playful, and clever. The Cocker Spaniel loves being around people and prefers to stay inside with the family. They are happy with regular exercise and always demand your attention. A backyard or even an apartment is suitable for the Cocker Spaniel.

Border Collies- This breed is fairly active. You will need to have time to walk, train, and give attention to your Border Collie. They love to be by your side and their favorite game is catch. Make sure to keep your Border Collie on a leash when walking because they will chase after birds, kids, or even cars.

Schnauzer- Schnauzers crave human attention. They love to entertain, but are not suitable for families with small children. The Schnauzer makes an excellent watchdog and is always on the lookout for strangers. If you want a loving, entertaining dog, the Schnauzer is perfect for you.

Small Dogs

Pugs - Pugs are extremely charismatic. They are perfect for families or single people. Human attention is a must for this breed, and they are friendly with humans and dogs. Daily walks are enough exercise for Pugs, and they prefer to be indoors with their owner.

Jack Russell - This Terrier is eager to please his owner. The Jack Russell Terrier is very active and will remain happy as long as it gets exercise and attention. They love to play games with their owner and are known as good watchdogs.

Shih Tzus - Shih Tzus crave the attention of their owner. They don’t need a lot of exercise, but are always happy with a short walk. Grooming a Shih Tzu is very important for its health. This indoor dog will warm your heart with its charming personality.

Chihuahua - The Chihuahua loves to cuddle with his owner. This breed does not require a lot of exercise, but needs attention and love. They get along with most people, and are easy to take care of. Despite its small size, the Chihuahua will take on a bigger dog to protect its owner.

Dachshund - The Dachshund is ideal for one-level houses because of the size of its legs. They don’t require a lot of exercise. This breed is ideal for people who prefer small, calm dogs.
